We are dedicated to providing your pet with the best care possible. We pledge to keep up with the most current information to help you make wise health care decisions for your pet. We offer a whole array of services for you.

Comprehensive Physical Exam

This is our most valuable service. We examine your pet completely. Every system is reviewed; ears, eyes, mouth, abdomen, musculoskeletal, heart, lungs and neurological. Then we explain our findings to you in easy to understand terms and make our recommendations. Our doctors will care for your pet as if it were their own.  (click here to learn more)

Dentistry

Our most common procedure is simply cleaning and polishing teeth. Unfortunately we have to remove some teeth that are badly infected and repair some that are damaged. We can also do root canals to preserve the important teeth. Good dental care can extend your pets life significantly. Come in and ask us about OraVet, the latest in preventative pet dental care. Soft-Tissue & Orthopedic Surgery

We offer a wide array of surgical services, from routine spaying and neutering to sophisticated thoracic and abdominal surgery.  We also offer comprehensive orthopedic evaluations as well as medical and surgical therapies for most orthopedic problems, from fractures to joint injuries to arthritis.

Your pets safety is our primary concern so we have a veterinary nursing staff person with your pet from the beginning of the procedure to the recovery room. Pain control is of great importance. Dr James Mathias is an expert in pain management. He gives presentations at other veterinary hospitals on pain control. Our doctors are well trained in surgery and will do an excellent job in taking care of your pet.

Laser Surgery

Our doctors can also use a laser during surgery. Laser is not always indicated but when your doctor recommends it, consider it. With laser surgery, there is very little pain and bleeding involved which makes the procedure much more comfortable for your pet. Laser surgery will help your pet have a more comfortable and rapid post-operative recovery.

Dietary Counseling

We keep up with the constantly changing world of pet nutrition. It can be intimidating in the pet food isle of the grocery store. Let us help you with this important decision that greatly influences your pets health. We are experts in pet nutrition. We recommend a number of brands and diets. We regularly use Iams pet foods.

Microchipping

Having a microchip placed in your pet is one of the surest ways of finding a lost pet. It is easily done anytime, is relatively painless and it's permanent. Did you know only 10% of lost dogs that did not have chips in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina were returned to there owners but 85% of dogs with chips found there owners.

Vaccinations

We are constantly reviewing information on products and protocols in order to make the best suggestions to you for your pet. We offer vaccinations that will help your pet live a happier and healthier life. We have 3 year rabies vaccines available. Distemper, hepatitis, adenovirus, parvovirus and sometimes leptosporosis and bordetella for dogs is recommended. Cats receive distemper(panleukopenia), Rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and feline leukemia and rabies if any outdoor exposure. Our doctors will discuss which of these are needed for your pet. Feline vaccines are just as important as canine. Pot bellied pigs get bordetella and erysipelus. There are a few vaccines for large birds. We only recommend them occasionally - based on special circumstances.

Pharmacy

Our hospital stores most medications on site, so we can give your pet the medicine they need as soon as it is prescribed. Our knowledgeable staff will go over any medications with you to make sure you understand the dosage and the proper way to administer the medication to your pet. This helps ensure your pet has a safer recovery and can battle their disease quickly and effectively.

Diagnostic Laboratory

We are capable of doing most of our major diagnostic testing right here at the hospital. We process our own cytologies, fungal cultures, complete blood counts, skin scraps and fecals. We can have your pets complete health profile in 15 – 20 min, which can be life-saving during emergencies. Other tests are available within 24 hours.

Radiology / Imaging

We can take x-rays of any animal, regardless of size and we can do complete ultrasound exams. We also have an endoscope used for looking down your pets esophagus and into their stomach. Both the ultrasound and endoscope have the ability to record live images as well as taking still pictures. These instruments help us quickly locate and diagnose a problem for your pet including some cancers, which can help us to quickly provide treatment for your pet.

Avian & Exotic Care

Birds, hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, and reptiles are all considered exotic pets. These critters need specialized care. Our doctors are dedicated to keeping up with the latest research to help you care for these unique pets.
